Warm weather is usually a reason for celebration, especially in Japan’s lovely Spring. But this year we will potentially face energy shortages again during the summer because of Japan’s ongoing energy crisis and the status of nuclear plants. Already, businesses are calling for “cool business attire”, which we think is a good idea regardless! And it’s not too soon to start thinking about planting some greenery, especially “green curtains”–viney plants like cucumber, goya (bitter gourd) or morning glory that will climb netting and cool the sides of buildings, thus reducing energy costs. Some businesses will dim lights during regular business hours and those signs (conservation in progress) will be on doors everywhere.

A city of cool, casual business attire, softly dimmed lights and plenty of greenery will be a sight to see. Please help do your part in this responsible effort. And let us know your conservation ideas. As we always say, together we can make this city an even better place.
