Chinatown and Yamate Seiyōkan (Western houses) are evidence that Yokohama has long been an international city where you can experience culture and food from different countries. Tie ONE Beer House in Bashamichi serves Taiwanese craft beer with a street food-themed menu. It has been gaining much attention from local residents since opening in November of last year as a place providing a connection to Taiwan.

Shop owner Jun Miyashita is the son of a Taiwanese mother and Japanese father. He was born in Taiwan but grew up in Yokohama. His mother has run a trade intermediary business in Yokohama for over 30 years and relatively recently started selling Taiwanese craft beer through E-commerce. To further spread the charms of Taiwan to Japan, they came up with the idea of establishing a bar where all can enjoy the country’s beer and food. As a college student, Miyashita worked at a British-style pub where he became a fan of beer. Tie ONE has a revolving selection of 4 tap beers served in small or regular sizes. There are about 8 other beers (cans/bottles served in glasses) and a 4-beer tasting set (¥2000). The food menu is casual, consisting of things like spring rolls (¥300 each) and beef noodle soup (¥850).

Tie ONE also hosts a variety of events every month, such as workshops on Taiwanese calligraphy, tea, and an afternoon tea session (with snacks). If you’re interested, information on these events can be found on their Instagram. Visit Tie ONE to teleport yourself to Taiwan for an enjoyable cultural experience.
