    Eggs’ n Things

Bright and spacious with ceiling fans, like something from a tropical locale—the cheerful, friendly staff with colorful aloha shirts even greet you with, “Aloha!” Customers, meanwhile, are all smiles as they dig into their Hawaiian food, like the island’s famous pancakes. But this isn’t Hawaii, of course; it’s the Shinyamashita location of Eggs ‘n Things, just three minutes from Yokohama Chinatown station.

As noted above, its famed dish is Hawaiian pancakes. A big dollop of whipped cream on top of four or five pancakes is the staple. We ordered the Hanohano pancake (¥1650), which commemorates the store’s 5th anniversary. In Hawaiian, Hanohano means “thanks”. It had prized Tochiotome strawberries and orchids beautifully arranged on top. The faintly pink, specially made whipped cream was subtly sweet, despite appearances. It was a plate with volume that certainly expressed “thanks.”

Beyond pancakes, Eggs ‘n Things offers quite a lot of other local Hawaiian food. Garlic Shrimp with Salsa Sauce & Sour Cream (¥1700) was a crunchy delight with spicy sauce that made us even hungrier. Most in Japan are still not familiar with Hawaii’s legendary pork, which is used in several Kalua Pig dishes (¥850). Give them a try!

The restaurant offers quite an array of drinks, including Hawaiian beers from Kona, Aloha and Primo (all ¥800), or Budweiser on draft (¥650). Special cocktails (¥900~) are available, as well as about ten tropical cocktails like Blue Hawaii and Pina Coladas (all ¥850). Standard cocktails (all ¥650), glass wine (¥700~), non-alcoholic cocktails (all ¥800) and soft drinks (¥350) round out the menu. Adults and kids alike have plenty of Hawaiian drinks to choose from.

The restaurant is appropriate for romantic dates, casual dining with old friends, or family dinners. This spring, gaze away at lovely Yamashita Park while enjoying a little elegant slice of Hawaii.
