    Halenohea

For those who endure the infamously long and unrelenting Japanese summer with its humidity and high temperatures, the tropical yet breezy weather of Hawaii would be a welcome change. If you are feeling a sudden rush to discard your suit and dive into the blue ocean, but your vacation is still weeks away, visit Halenohea Hamabowl EAS, where you can enjoy great Hawaiian dishes made with lots of aloha spirit not far from bustling Yokohama Station.

Welcomed by the totem pole of Hawaiian deity Tiki before a bright, spacious dining room with surfboards decorating the white walls, you’ll likely want to kick off your night with a bottle of Kona beer. Whether you go with a hoppy Kona Big Wave (¥750) or the full-bodied Kona Fire Rock (¥750), you won’t be let down. Fancy a tropical drink? Ask the friendly staff in colorful pareo skirts for their recommendations. Ms. Yu Okawa, manager of Halenohea, informs us that their signature cocktail, Halenohea (¥880), is popular due to the fruity taste of Malibu with pineapple and its attractive hue.

From their extensive food menu, Island Onion Blossom (¥1,180), a large deep-fried onion served with thousand island dressing, is a winner. Also try the Hawaiian platter that includes your choice of main dish along with rice, fresh green salad and macaroni salad. From a selection of Loco Moco (¥1,280), Mochiko Chicken (¥1,180), Ahi Poke (¥1,380) and Garlic Shrimp (¥1,680), enjoy a combo with your favorite island taste. For dessert, the Hawaiian Tropical Fruit Pancakes (¥1,480) covered with fresh fruit and whipped cream with mango sauce perfectly complete your feast.

Halenohea means “Cool House/Nice House” in Hawaiian, and the staff at Halenohea welcome guests as if they were family. “People who love Hawaii come to our place and they actually make us love Hawaii even more,” says Okawa with a beautiful aloha smile. Hawaiian shows run during the weekend (Fri-Sun). Guests can enjoy Hawaiian music with ukulele, hula dance and even Tahitian dance performances at no extra charge.
