    Kamakura Garage

Walking into Kamakura Garage, the first thing that catches your eye is the attractive, colorful tile bar. Multiple windows give it a naturally bright atmosphere and the sunny attitude of the staff adds to that aura. During our lunchtime visit, American folk and acoustic tunes played in the background, adding pleasantly to the experience. Owner Kaz Segawa, works the bar chatting with guests while also putting the finishing touches on the dishes. If you are alone, have a seat at the counter and he’ll do his best make you feel at home.

The day we stopped by there were three lunch offerings to chooseDSC_8294 from: Curry (¥1000), Pasta (¥1200) and Back Rib (¥1500). We went with the third option and added Kato’s Salad (¥780). Segawa clearly values presentation as much as flavor, as the food was not only delicious, but meticulously arranged. We are excited about a second visit to explore the expanded dinner menu.

Signs out front proudly advertise craft beer and certainly some good ones are served. The bar has eight taps with a focus on US craft breweries such as Sierra Nevada, Maui and Modern Times, alongside local Kamakura Beer (266ml, ¥800 / US pint ¥1250). If you can’t decide, try the Tasting Set of four 100ml glasses (¥1000) to find your favorite. Heartland (360ml, ¥680) and Blue Moon (300ml, ¥800) are also available in addition to whisky, cocktails and wine.

Between stools at the counter and table seating, Kamakura Garage can accommodate about 25 inside plus an additional four or so on the outdoor deck. The restaurant is located right around the corner from Hase Station on the Enoden Line and is a short five-minute walk from Yuigahama Beach. It’s casual, non-smoking and a nice place to take a date.
