    Sorairo Gelato

With the summer heat continuing deep into September, there’s nothing like savoring a cup (or cone) of gelato while taking a stroll by the harbor. Located at the entrance to Osanbashi Pier (a 20-minute walk from Sakuragicho Station), Yokohama Sorairo Gelato is the perfect place to satisfy your craving for this creamy, decadent treat. You’ll easily spot the little gelateria with its doors and walls painted pale blue and white, and large windows exposing the cosy, inviting atmosphere inside. The bright, vivid interior, and eye-catching “sorairo” (sky-colored) wallpaper at the entrance are the first things you’ll notice when you step into the shop. According to the employees, the wallpaper is popular among customers, who use it as a backdrop to snap Instagram photos of their gelato. We couldn’t resist doing the same!

Sorairo Gelato is popular for its unique flavors, like Olive Oil and latte fruit blends (only available on certain days), but its refreshing, tropical flavors should also be on your must-try list. Once you’ve decided on two flavors, they’ll heap voluminous scoops of creamy gelato into a cup (¥500) or waffle cone (¥500 for the Cone Piccolo, ¥600 for the slightly larger Cone Medio), topped with a crunchy piece of waffle. We opted for two cups–one with scoops of White Peach and Lemon, the other Pineapple and Rich Milk. We also got a cone with Passion Fruit (¥100 extra) and Yuzu Yogurt, which was loaded with small bits of the fruits. Our first visit to Sorairo Gelato has us wanting to go back for more so we can try out all the flavors they have to offer.
